Overnight: Marrakech
After breakfast, the day is dedicated to exploring the historic Red City of Marrakech, one of Morocco’s four imperial capitals. Begin with a visit to the elegant Bahia Palace, a masterpiece of Moroccan architecture known for its intricate courtyards, carved cedar ceilings, and refined Andalusian design.
Continue to the historic Dar Si Said Museum, home to an impressive collection of Moroccan decorative arts and traditional craftsmanship. Later, enjoy a peaceful walk through the Menara Gardens, where olive groves frame views toward the distant Atlas Mountains.
The spiritual dimension of Marrakech unfolds through visits to the sacred shrines of the Seven Saints of Marrakech, including the revered Imam Al-Jazuli, an influential scholar and author of Dalā’il al-Khayrāt. The afternoon concludes exploring the lively Medina Souks, where artisans continue centuries-old crafts.
Overnight: Marrakech
After breakfast, depart Marrakech and begin a spectacular journey across the High Atlas Mountains, travelling along the winding road of the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, the highest mountain pass in Morocco. The route reveals dramatic landscapes of mountain villages, terraced valleys, and traditional Berber communities.
Descending toward the southern desert regions, the journey continues to Aït Ben Haddou, a remarkable UNESCO World Heritage fortified village that once served as a key caravan stop linking the Sahara with the imperial cities.
Explore the ancient Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, where earthen towers and narrow passages preserve centuries of Saharan trade history. Continue onward to Ouarzazate, often known as the Gateway to the Sahara and famous for its cinematic desert landscapes.
Overnight: Ouarzazate
After breakfast, the journey continues eastward through the changing landscapes of southern Morocco. Travel along historic caravan routes passing dramatic valleys and desert plateaus toward the spectacular Dades Gorge and the towering canyon walls of the Todra Gorge, where cliffs rise dramatically above the valley floor.
Pause in the oasis town of Tinghir, surrounded by vast palm groves and traditional mud-brick villages that reflect the agricultural life of Morocco’s desert regions.
By afternoon the road reaches the edge of the Sahara at Merzouga, where the golden dunes of the Erg Chebbi Desert rise from the horizon. A memorable camel trek across the Sahara dunes leads to the desert camp at sunset.
Enjoy an evening around the campfire under the stars before retiring to a traditional Berber desert tent in the heart of the Sahara.
Overnight: Merzouga Desert Camp
Wake before dawn to witness one of the most unforgettable moments of the journey: the sunrise over the Sahara dunes, as the desert landscape slowly changes colour with the rising light.
After breakfast, return by camel from the desert camp to your nearby hotel where the remainder of the day is free to relax and enjoy the peaceful desert surroundings.
Travellers may choose to explore further with optional activities such as a 4×4 desert excursion across the dunes to the village of Khamlia, home to the Gnawa community known for its distinctive desert music traditions.
The day offers a slower rhythm, allowing time to experience the atmosphere of the Sahara and the vast landscapes that define Morocco’s southern frontier.
Overnight: Merzouga
After breakfast, depart the Sahara and begin travelling north along historic trans-Saharan caravan routes that once connected the desert trade routes with Morocco’s imperial cities.
The journey passes through Erfoud, known as the Gateway to the Sahara, before continuing through the lush Ziz Valley, famous for its endless palm groves and dramatic desert scenery stretching across the valley floor.
A stop is made in Midelt, a mountain town located between the High Atlas and Middle Atlas Mountains, before the landscape gradually changes from desert plains to cedar forests and alpine plateaus.
By late afternoon arrive in Fez, the historic cultural and spiritual centre of Morocco.
